2022-2024 have been a few great years for me. I was working as Animation Director for a well-funded channel called Rational Animations during this time, released my proudest work yet.
A few months back I stepped down as director (TEMPORARILY) to take some pressure off, collect myself & return to animating. I might have worked directly on all these videos, but those videos don't really feel like MINE you know? Alienation, capital and all that. I'll return to directing in some months.
So I wanna animate and post here more! Maybe I've held myself to too high a standard bc I'm a working professional - but while I know I'm capable of making decent stuff, I also just want to make whatever's in my heart. That's going to run a wide gamut from sci-fi effortvids to vindictive shitposts. But what's important is that I have fun with it!
I'm user of the day, so what does that mean? Uhh I guess I'll show off? Or better, a mega status post.
First up: Scrapveil Nebula is a tabletop game I've been working on - full ruleset, art by me and everything! As I earn a living, I'm workin on a really big video for Scrapveil Nebula - my current passion project. The video's very early on, still in preproduction (writing, storyboarding, design) but I'm really stoked for it!
Scrapveil Nebula is sci-fi on the harder end, a region of interstellar space in the far-future best described as post-collapse. Space itself is considered an environment, and the situation is grim - what was long ago a frontier of empty void is now ravaged, exploited and intensely polluted. The distance between planets and stars is saturated with radioactive toxic starship exhaust called Myasm, and time is warped by constant FTL travel.
Many post-human species, machine lifeforms and animal uplifts call the Scrapveil Nebula their home. Population numbers in the likely quadrillions spread across hundreds of worlds, but quality of life everywhere is terrible. Communication through Myasm is impossible, so civilizations are very fragmented. A mysterious space wasteland home to impoverished vestiges, arrogant nations, secretive enclaves and ancient ruins!
Some people traverse the Myasm in ancient modular spaceships, but those things get harder to run all the time. A lot of tech and knowledge has been lost, journeys usually take weeks and so simply figuring out how to gather water is just as much a problem as making the next gig. In the tabletop game, surviving as a Spacer aboard your starship is the goal!
My full-time job's Animation Director for the Rational Animations youtube channel, but lately I've been taking on cleanup to do for our upcoming video, The King and The Golem! This is one I'm actually incredibly excited for, it will be my best work as a director and our best work as an animation team.
I did a crumb of rough animation for the next Monkey Wrench video! Always fun to take part in Zeurel's stuff~
I've completely graduated from Flash to Toon Boom and Storyboard Pro at this point - that said I do keep a lil Macromedia Flash 8 around as a keepsake. But man I animate over 40 hours a week :II
Hm... I like listening to the Tiberian Sun ost lately. It gets my imagination going for Scrapveil Nebula.
Life stuff: I recently moved cross-country out of Dallas and back to Philly. I married 2 years back, will make a trip to India this fall, uhh what else... HEY. USA jerks! Don't forget to vote! You thought this post was apolitical? Joke's on you, Kamala 2024 assholes! HAHAHA FUCK YOU NO ESCAPE
Scrapveil Nebula TTRPG 0.5.5 (softlaunch)! My hobby and passion project for the last year or so.
Play a Posthuman, Uplift or Machine crewmate with your friends; guide your modular clunker of a Starship through the gloomy, dangerous pollution clouds of the far-future Scrapveil Nebula.
I'm proudly announcing the upcoming Kickstarter launch of Forgotten Suns, a Starship Survival Co-op TTRPG set in the far, post-human future! I've worked very hard and in relative secret on this for several months, but it's all coming together! Watch this space, it's launching early in May.
Huge huge congrats to my buddy / recently former roommate Mr. "Matt" Krinks and a certain Swaim for completing an enormously ambitious game project they'd spent several years on. Maybe you've heard of it? It's this kinda niche and obscure thing but I gotta warn you about the violence bc there's a lot.
After a few weeks of continuing to work on my Sun City solarpunk movie during my free time, I've added a whole bunch of stuff to it, refining what was there and doubling its length!
In other news, I've gotten and assembled a Prusa 3D printer and my first experiment with it was a huge success! I love this thing.
